“Lady Gạo” Character – Be Proud Of Your Culture & Identity
Rice has long been regarded as the source of Vietnamese civilization and culture.
The story “The Moon Lady and Three Magical Paddy Grains”, written in 2020, draws inspiration from the image of “Rice Grains” and the Đông Hồ folk painting “The Rat’s Wedding”. This imagery inspired author Bam Bi to create the main character and storyline of “Lady Gạo.”

From there, she helped the villagers regain their dignity, break free from the tyranny of the old Cat, and bring a warm and happy life not only to the Mouse village but also to other regions.The image of “Lady Gạo” stepping out of the “Rice Husk” is one of the most important scenes in the whole story. From there, the mysteries inside the Three Magical Paddy Grains are gradually revealed and explained. The imagery of the “Three Magical Paddy Grains” represents “filial piety, bravery, and compassion” which are the qualities that enable each individual to be resilient, overcome obstacles and hardships, and find true values in life. This is also one of the beautiful moral lessons passed down from ancient times by the Vietnamese people.
